Happy Valley Viewers Claim Ryan’s Football Coach Is ‘evil’ And Not To Be Trusted

Happy Valley viewers have claimed that Ryan’s school football coach, Mr. Hepworth, cannot be trusted, after telling the student he could confide in him about his problems.

In last week’s episode, Sergeant Catherine Cawood followed her 16-year-old grandson as he visited his father Tommy Lee Royce in prison, accompanied by her sister Claire Cartwright and her partner Neil Ackroyd.

But questions were raised when Claire doesn’t go to jail, but instead goes to a coffee shop in Sheffield and lies to Catherine about her whereabouts – only to be ambushed by her sister.

Eek! Happy Valley viewers have claimed that Ryan’s school football coach, Mr Hepworth, cannot be trusted, after telling the student he could confide in him about his problems

On Sunday’s episode of the BBC drama, Mr Hepworth (played by Mark Stanley) seemed surprised to learn that Ryan’s father (Rhys Connah) was in prison and told the teenager he could confide in him.

In a school hallway scene, he said, “Ryan, just to say you played really well on Saturday. I’m glad we cleared the air. You’ve made some very respectable saves… What’s going on?’

Ryan’s boyfriend then chimed in, “No matter what he did, tell him to apologize to his grandma.” He had a fight with his grandmother, so he’s moved in with his Aunt Claire and she’s a little flaky.’

When Mr. Hepworth asked what it was about and the friend replied, “His father,” the employee replied, “I didn’t know you had one.”

The friend added: ‘He’s in prison’, before Mr Hepworth said to Ryan: ‘Do you want to talk to someone about it? Could help. Doesn’t have to be mine or…could. Be good to talk.’

When he later accepted the offer, while telling Ryan about the troubled state of his own marriage, viewers took to Twitter to share their concerns.

One wrote: “#HappyValley What is Mr. Hepworth up to?!” while another wrote, “That football coach is vaguely asf! #HappyValley.’

Added a third and fourth: “You’re right about Hepworth. He is a malicious enabler. #HappyValley,” and, “Noooo…..Ryan please don’t talk to him…#HappyValley.”
