Stephen King’s Praise Of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities premieres on Netflix on Oct. 25, and Stephen King strongly recommends watching the new anthology series.

In a short review, Stephen King praises Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Filled with eight unique stories created by Del Toro and other prolific horror filmmakers, Cabinet of Curiosities is an anthology series set to premiere on October 25 on Netflix. The series boasts an impressive cast that includes Tim Blake Nelson, Andrew Lincoln, Ben Barnes, Rupert Grint, Sofia Boutella, Charlyne Yi, Eric Andre, and Crispin Glover. The episodes will be released in pairs over four days, with the last two released on October 28. Each story that Del Toro described as “meant to challenge traditional notions of horror” will be introduced by the Academy Award-winning director himself.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

While the horror genre is experiencing a renaissance year, renowned horror author Stephen King has been sharing his reviews for some of the new releases. Throughout his long career, King’s stories have received their own screen adaptations, including Stanley Kubrick’s classic The Shining and the recently released Netflix original Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. Still, the best-selling author often lends his horror expertise to promote new additions to the genre, as he recently did for Damien Leone’s bloody Terrifier 2. Now, the King of Horror offers his opinion on Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

It seems that Del Toro’s newest work has earned King’s approval. King praises Cabinet of Curiosities with a short review before the anthology premieres. In a tweet, the author “strongly” recommends watching Del Toro’s new series and describes the show as “Scary, sinister, and beautiful to look at.” Check out King’s tweet above.

Guillermo del Toro Is Resurrecting The Horror Anthology

Horror anthologies have graced the screen for nearly as long as movies have existed. The subgenre has delighted and disturbed audiences with favorites like the classic Tales of the Crypt and the cult-status Trick’r’Treat; recent years have been sparse with hit horror anthologies. Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities may have the opportunity to change that. As the series introduces new monsters and stories to the screen, it may soon become essential horror viewing.

While King’s words are high praise for Cabinet of Curiosities, fans of Del Toro would expect nothing less from the filmmaker. After all, Del Toro is a master of horror in his own right as the creator of the critically acclaimed Pan’s Labyrinth. Leading the Netflix anthology series is a change in direction for Del Toro. Still, with his mastery of creating fantastic worlds and King’s recommendation, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities seems to be a scary good time.
